This book looks at the present structure of the South African economy and asks what needs to be done to meet the challenges of deep poverty, high unemployment and growing inequality that still mark the country after 15 years of democracy.

This series of books, published by Jacana on behalf of the ANC Parliamentary Political Education Committee, sets out to provide short but informative introductions to ANC history, politics and policy written by leading thinkers within the ANC. Based on a series of lectures given at Parliament to ANC members, the series is intended to provide not only members and supporters of the ANC but the wider public with assessments of ANC thinking on policy and politics and to stimulate wider debate and discussion on leading issues of the day.
